The People's Coalition for the Sahel brings together dozens of civil society organizations subscribing to the four People's Pillars, aiming to promote a response to the multidimensional crisis in the central Sahel that places at its core: the protection of civilians; a comprehensive political strategy that addresses the root causes of insecurity, particularly in terms of governance; humanitarian urgency; and the fight against impunity for all perpetrators of abuses against civilians.

The People’s Coalition for the Sahel is an informal network that operates on an "opt-in" model. Its members do not systematically take part in all the Coalition's activities, and no activity is binding on all members.

The People’s Coalition for the Sahel has no spokesperson. When a Coalition member speaks out publicly to promote the Coalition's principles and activities, they do so as a member and not on behalf of the Coalition.

Participation in the Citizens' Coalition is subject to the following conditions, clearly identified on the Coalition website, to which all organizations joining the Coalition have subscribed:

  • Subscribing to the People’s Pillars ;

  • Commit to working constructively, in particular with decision-makers;

  • Be non-partisan, apolitical and non-violent, and ensure that its partners are not likely to associate it with any political party or movement;

  • Not present a security risk to the coalition or its partners;

  • Be an established organization with an address, clear objectives and formal authorization to operate.

If an organization no longer meets one of these five conditions, it loses its membership.
